Smart Home Pillar: Automation
The “brain” of the smart home - scenes, routines, and logic that makes everything work together.
Automation is what turns individual smart devices into a real smart home. HouseFix designs automation so the home feels effortless: one tap for the right environment, and intelligent routines that run in the background without hassle.
What Automation includes
1) Scenes (one-tap control)
Scenes are preset combinations that change multiple systems at once:
Home: comfort settings, key lights, disarm/standby security
Away: lights off, AC eco, arm security, selected cameras active
Night: perimeter protection, bedroom comfort, pathway lighting
Sleep: lights off, curtains closed, AC set, quiet mode
Movie: lighting dim, curtains close, ambience settings
Guest: brighter lighting, comfort preset, simple controls
Vacation: security armed, presence simulation, efficiency mode
HouseFix standard: scenes are named clearly and tested end-to-end.
2) Routines (automation that runs by itself)
Routines can trigger by:
Time: morning/evening schedules, bedtime shutdown
Sunrise/sunset: outdoor lights, curtain schedules
Presence: arrival and departure (geofencing where used)
Sensors: motion, door/window contact, leak alerts
Environment: temperature/humidity/air quality thresholds
Calendar patterns (optional): workdays vs weekends behaviour
3) Presence and occupancy logic
“Someone is home” vs “house is empty” logic
Bedroom prioritisation at night, living areas by day
Motion-based night lighting that doesn’t wake the whole house
Auto shut-down of non-essential loads when empty
4) Smart curtain/blind automation
Time-based open/close
Sun-based shading to reduce glare and heat gain
Privacy modes (close living/master instantly)
Scene-linked control (Movie, Night, Away)
5) Safety automations
If leak detected → alert + optional water shutoff integration
If smoke/heat detected → alerts + lights on + exit path lighting (where appropriate)
If door opens when armed → alerts + camera snapshot triggers
“Night safety” routines (path lighting on motion)
6) Energy and comfort automations
AC schedules tied to occupancy/time
Lighting schedules and occupancy-based switching
Peak heat shading routines (curtains/blinds)
“Eco mode” when away, “pre-cool” before arrival
7) Control interfaces
Mobile control (simple, consistent controls)
Wall control panels (one-touch scenes, included in Full Integration tier)
Keypads/buttons in key zones (optional)
Voice control integration (optional, if requested)
8) Reliability standards
Clear naming and room grouping
Tested automations (not “set and forget”)
Avoiding app chaos through a consistent control layer
Documented scene list and behaviour rules in the handover pack
